Inditex Opens First International “for&from” Store

In 2019 Iditex opened a store in Como Italy which was the first outside of Spain to be opened as part of the “for&from” programme. This new space is characterized by an elimination of barriers. To this end, numerous technical solutions have been employed to adapt the space to the range of different disabilities, such as with labelling using Braille and readable through shapes and colours, and furnishings and walkways adapted to customers with reduced mobility.

Inditex is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, with eight brands (Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Zara Home and Uterque) selling in 202 markets through its online platform or its over 7,000 stores in 96 markets.

Inditex’s 'for&from' programme is aimed at the social integration of people with disabilities, by providing employment opportunities in their stores.

The stores are operated by non-profit partner organisations with the relevant disability expertise. These include Fundación Molí d'en Puigvert, Confederación Galega de Persoas con Discapacidade, Asociación Pro-Discapacitados Psíquicos de Alicante, Moltacte, Fundación Prodis and Cometa. In all other respects, these branches are just the same as ordinary stores within their franchises.

After an initial donation from Iditex to build the store, the programme funds itself. Iditex supply past-season items which the stores sell at a discount and all profits are then invested back into projects for disabled people.

On 28 April 2002 in Palafolls (Barcelona) Inditex established the first Massimo Dutti shop employing people with severe mental disorders (SMD). The initiative has achieved a notable success in the staff's social and professional integration. Massimo Dutti’s Palafolls employees improved their health, reducing their levels of medication and number of hospital admissions.

Inditex’s “for&from” programme already boasts a total of 15 stores that have generated more than 200 jobs for people with disabilities.

Massimo Dutti also has an easy to use accessible website which allows navigation adjustment, colour adjustment, and content adjustment.

By having a positive attitude to disability employers can help to foster the integration of people with disabilities.
