Enable Ireland – Smart Homes Technology: Maximising independent living

Enable Ireland recently held a one day seminar in DIT Aungier Street on Smart Homes Technology (Thursday 11th April 2013).  Nine companies promoting assistive technologies and smart home technologies for people with disabilities attended the event showcasing how their products can improve independent living in the home for people with disabilities.

The presentation began at 10.00am with a brief overview given by Enable Ireland. This followed with a brief presentation by each of the nine companies which was followed by detailed presentations by each company to small groups of people rotating between the companies on a phased basis.

The benefits of having technology in the home include being able to control lighting, heating and alarms remotely from outside the home or automatically by computer or timer. There are also assistive technology products that have been developed for people with mobility and dexterity impairments that can assist them in operation of electronic and Information Technology equipment in their homes.
