World Health Organisation and the World Bank launch World Report on Disability

The World Report on Disability, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank, with contributions from over 380 experts was launched on the 9th June 2011.  The report urges governments to “to step up efforts to enable access to mainstream services and to invest in specialized programmes to unlock the vast potential of people with disabilities.”

The report provides the best available evidence about what works to overcome barriers to health care, rehabilitation, education, employment, and support services, and to create the environments which will enable people with disabilities to flourish.

The report ends with a concrete set of recommended actions(nine in total for governments, professionals, disability organisations, people with disabilities.  It recommends that governments and their development partners:
