M/420 Standardisation mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI in support of European accessibility requirements for public procurement in the built environment

In April 2010, Eoin O'Herlihy Managing Director of OHAC was engaged by the European Commission to work on work on Phase 1 of 'Mandate 420 (M/420) - Standardisation mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI in support of European accessibility requirements for public procurement in the built environment'.

The main aim of the project was to review the current state of play of European accessibility requirements in public procurement for the built environment and to address the gaps in standards relating to accessibility in Europe.

The second aim of this project was to identify how conformity assessment and accessibility can be improved throughout Europe. Eoin's work on this team involved research into latest best practice, gathering data and collating information, stakeholder engagement, preparation of standards, analysis of gaps relating to accessibility standards, reviewing conformity assessment schemes, attending meetings, on-line discussions, making recommendations for improvements and preparation of the final report. This project was completed in November 2012.
