Accessibility is the theme for Worlds Standards Day in October 2010

World Standards Day is celebrated internationally each year on October 14th. The day honours the efforts of the thousands of experts who develop voluntary standards within standards development organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy.

The theme for the 2010 Worlds Standards Day is Accessibility. Accessibility is defined as “Accessibility is the degree to which a product, device, service, environment or facility is usable by as many people as possible, including by persons with disabilities”.

To mark the occasion an international workshop will be held on 3 and 4 November 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland, to review and examine the standards needed for facilitating the development of accessible solutions around the world. The workshop will be followed by a meeting especially organized for standards developers on 5 November 2010. For further details click here.
