By focusing on compliance, universal design, and staff education, the project not only met regulatory standards but also fostered an environment that supports all users. This case study exemplifies how targeted consultancy can drive significant positive change in organizational accessibility and inclusivity.
OHAC collaborated with the Cavan Disability Network in conjunction with Cavan County Local Development to deliver ‘Train the Trainer’ disability equality training for network volunteers. This initiative also aimed to raise awareness, educate members on disability-related issues, and equip them with skills to promote inclusivity and accessibility.
OHAC was tasked with developing dynamic and engaging e-learning module for disability awareness training for all staff in the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. The collaboration with OHAC has equipped DCEDIY with a comprehensive and engaging e-learning module on disability awareness, fostering a more inclusive and knowledgeable workforce.
OHAC designed and delivered several ‘Train the Trainer’ courses in Disability Awareness and passenger management for staff of Bus Eireann to support their commitment to accessibility. The course incorporated best practice principles in making a public transport bus service accessible to all, supporting vulnerable passengers and those with visible and hidden disabilities.
OHAC provided Universal Design consultancy services for the development to accommodate 6000 people, within a masterplan designed to accommodate up to 30,000 within the wider grounds. Accessibility consultancy services included Universal Design Advice & Workshops, Disability Access Certificates (DAC), Technical Advice, Part M Ancillary Certifier, Pre-Visitor Information and Training.
OHAC was appointed to advise on universal design elements for the construction of a new national velodrome and badminton area. We also completed various design reviews so that the Disability Access Certificate (DAC) was successfully obtained for the project. We will continue to advise on accessibility and Universal Design and to assist the project team until project completion.
OHAC was brought in to advise on Part M of the Second Schedule of the Building Regulations (Access and Use) which included various design reviews, workshops, and the preparation of the Disability Access Certificate (DAC) application. OHAC also completed all of the Revised Disability Access Certificates (RDAC).
OHAC was tasked with providing recommendations for improvements which struck a balance between accessibility, conservation and security. OHAC carried out Access Audits, Universal Design Consultancy and Technical Advisory services on this project.
OHAC provided the following services: Universal Design strategy and engagement with key stakeholders, Preparation and lodgement of DAC and RDAC, Liaising with design team and contractors; Providing ongoing technical advice; Carrying out inspections; and Part M Ancillary Certifier sign off on completion of the project.
OHAC provided technical advisory services, Universal Access Consultancy Services and Training on the project including Part M compliance, Universal Design Strategies, and disability and equality awareness training. This project has won Universal Design Building of the year 2017 at the RIAI Awards.
OHAC participated in the EU Study: Mapping Skills and Training Requirements for Accessible Tourism, 2014. We have also assisted the National Gallery of Ireland, Failte Ireland, Arts and Disability Ireland and the European Network for Accessible Tourism.
OHAC worked with the Netflix team to develop a methodology to address its key accessibility requirements. OHAC also supported Netflix in the co-design of its own set of Universal Design Guidelines across all the organisation touchpoints of policy, employment, buildings, facilities, customer services and information provision. Access Audits were carried out in Netflix offices throughout Europe.
Our work with the OPW ranges from Access Audit services to Accessibility & Universal Design Consultancy and Training services. We also provide consultancy advice for special projects and events.
OHAC partnered with the NDA - CEUD to develop national guidelines for Changing Places Toilets (CPT) in Ireland. The guidelines are intended to support the implementation of the new Irish building regulations and technical guidance for the provision of Changing Places Toilets (Part M Amendment Regulations 2022 and Technical Guidance Document M 2022).
The collaboration between OHAC and the National Gallery of Ireland has resulted in a robust Universal Access Policy and a strategic action plan that will guide the Gallery in its commitment to accessibility over the next three years. This initiative ensures that the National Gallery of Ireland remains a welcoming and inclusive space for all visitors, regardless of their abilities.
OHAC developed a Universal Design approach to enhance the overall staff, student and visitor experience including the development of policies and action plans, Access Audits, Campus Buildings, Facilities and Health & Safety, Teaching and Learning as well as Curriculum Development, Student Services, Specialist Student Supports, Human Resources, Reasonable Accommodation, Procurement of Goods and Services, and Staff Training.
