Under new Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations, that were approved by the UEFA Executive Committee in 2015, it became a requirement that Football clubs appointed a Disability Access Officer (DAO).
To support and assist the Disability Access Officers, UEFA and its social responsibility partner, the Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFE), have recently published a Disability Access Officer Handbook (2017 edition).
Guidance Handbook
This guidance handbook lists and describes the main responsibilities of a Disability Access Officer and how they can further facilitate and improve access within their club. The aim is that ultimately this will help everybody, including people with disabilities, to enjoy football. The contents of the Handbook include interesting topics such as:
- Why access and inclusion matter?
- How to recruit a disability access officer.
- The responsibilities of a disability access officer (e.g. matchday support, improving access, transport, signage, providing accessible information etc.
- Liaising with disabled supporter’s groups.
- Hosting various accessible and inclusive events.
- Access strategies and staffing matters (e.g. staff training).
- The disability access officer’s role in practice (case studies from different Disability Access Officers around the world).
