Position Overview

The Site Inspector will work in our Design and Construction team. The purpose of this role is to provide full project support to the Project Lead, while also providing support across the Department, when required. The key function of the role is to advise, support and deliver inspections and associated reports on a variety of projects focusing on accessibility, to ensure compliance with Part M of the Building Regulations and granted Disability Access Certificates (DACs) is achieved.

Responsibilities

Pre site

  • Review tender/construction drawings & specifications ensuring compliance with Part M and the granted DAC is achieved.
  • Drafting of access specifications, preliminary inspection plans, etc. in support of the project lead.
  • Providing Part M Workshops, as required, to contractors/the design team/others, identifying key areas of accessibility to be aware of during construction.

On-Site

  • Completing regular inspections of construction sites to include documented reporting to the design team and maintaining records of all inspections carried out.
  • Monitoring the complete building process by attending design team meetings as required by Project Lead
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with project managers, assigned certifiers and all parties involved in the construction project under guidance of the Project Lead as
    required to:

    • Safeguard the quality of work.
    • Predict potential problems on site by not achieving compliance and advise accordingly.
    • Track compliance issues ensuring a satisfactory and timely close out is achieved.

Post-Site

  • Co-ordinate and collate all Part M certification of compliance for completion inconjunction with the builder/main contractor.
  • Liaise with OHAC Project Lead in preparation and issue of BC(A)R ancillary certification when compliance has been demonstrated.

Teamwork

  • Provides support across the Design & Construction team to colleagues as required
  • Contributes to the wider company in terms of supporting the development of accessibility awareness – e.g. company newsletters, presentations, CPDs etc.
  • Acts as an advocate internally and externally for accessibility

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A passion and interest for accessibility and disability inclusion
  • Relevant qualification – Degree level within the construction industry (Construction, Engineering, Building studies, Surveying, Architecture, Architectural technician.
  • Previous experience on construction sites; ideally, with a site inspection role.
  • Excellent 2D AutoCAD skills.
  • An understanding and desire to learn accessibility and Universal Design and appreciation for relevant industry legislation and standards
  • An eye for detail and a logical approach to inspecting a site.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to quickly develop relationships with all stakeholders/clients and colleagues alike
  • Keen interest in continuously expanding own technical knowledge and imparting this to others across the Company
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills. – oral, written and presentation skills including strong report writing skills.
  • Ability to work with and contribute to a team.
