The Accessibility Technician will be responsible for providing support in the delivery of different projects relating to the services provided by OHAC. This is mainly in the preparation of Disability Access Certificates (DACs), access audit reports, accessibility reviews and supporting other accessibility projects as required.
Responsibilities
- To complete final drawings for issue with Disability Access Certificate (DAC) applications.
- To contribute to the design and development of Disability Access Certificate applications and to manage the DAC database.
- To carry out design appraisals for new buildings, extensions, and building alterations and report to the Accessibility Advisor
- To assist in the preparation, completion and issue of DAC application documentation (i.e. marked up drawings, reviews, compliance reports, application forms).
- To record the status and progress of applications and advise the Project Lead and Clients accordingly.
- To act as member of team in project delivery and provide support to team members.
- Continuously develop own accessibility knowledge and contribute internally, while also seeking to contribute externally to the accessibility community nationally and internationally
- Contributes to the wider company in terms of supporting the development of accessibility awareness – e.g. company newsletters, presentations, CPDs etc.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A passion and interest for accessibility and disability inclusion
- A relevant qualification in the construction industry including: Building Surveying, Architecture, Architectural Technician, Construction or Engineering with a high level of design skills combined with some prior experience working on design projects.
- Proficiency in CAD
- Practical experience and level of skill in the utilisation of design packages, in particular AutoCAD and MS Office application
- Prior knowledge and understanding of Part M of building regulations
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, report writing and presentation skills
- An understanding of disability access design solutions, and appreciation for relevant industry legislation and standards
- A driven, self-starter with the ability to act with the minimum of supervision
- Highly structured approach to work and strong organisational skills
- The ability to quickly develop good working relationships with colleagues and clients alike
- Excellent oral, written and presentation communications’ skills
- Ability to work well within a team and contribute to the team wider OHAC team
