Built Environment Accessibility: Making Buildings Accessible for All

Course Description

This programme introduces participants to the key principles of Universal Access, Universal Design, Neurodiversity in Building Design, Disability Access Certificates and Access Auditing to ensure all aspects of the built environment are accessible.

This practical workshop is highly interactive, using a variety of learning techniques including videos, discussions, case studies, design appraisals, route appraisals, problem-solving of everyday scenarios, and working examples of everyday barriers faced by people with disabilities and more.

Day one introduces participants to disability and inclusion issues as it affects their role, their organisation and wider society. Participants will be provided with an overview of the provisions of Disability and Equality legislation, models of disability and Part M legislation. Days two and three of the course aims to build on participants’ existing knowledge, equipping them with the skills to carry out an access audit of the built environment. As part of the course, participants will carry out an access audit on a chosen building. This will be reviewed and graded as part of course.

*Course dates:

9th April, 10th April and 30th April.
