Course Description
This course aims to equip learners new to the area of disability and accessibility with an understanding of disability and inclusion issues as it affects their role, their organisation and wider society. Participants will be provided with an overview of the provisions of Disability and Equality legislation. The course also aims to raise awareness and help participants understand disability inclusion issues at all touchpoints within an organisation including; customer services, information provision, building & facilities and the workplace.
The course is based on the concept of the Social Model of Disability. This concept places a person’s impairment in the context of social and environmental factors which create disabling barriers to participation in society and emphasises the rights of people with disabilities.
This approach will help staff to view their role in terms of promoting equality and the rights-based approach to accessibility across their organisation.
