Ceiling Hoist CPD - Guldmann

As access consultants, it is vital that the team at OHAC understands the needs of a range of users of an environment in addition to understanding the construction process and its related issues.

It is important for our team to be aware of new developments and be able to apply and share our learning and be in a position to provide clients with up-to-date advice.

Many people over the course of their lives will attend hospitals, care homes or require modifications to their living environments due to acquiring a disability, disease, or aging. These can leave people with decreased mobility and agility which can create difficulties walking or leave them not being able to walk at all. This can sometimes result in people requiring assistance from others such as medical personnel, carers or family members.

This month, we are looking at the provision of ceiling hoists which can remove the barriers associated with moving around a building. These can offer safe, reliable and effective hoisting solutions for carers and patients who can no longer safely manage a manually assisted transfer. For example, moving a person between a bedroom and bathroom.

Today’s continuous professional development (CPD) session was hosted by representatives from Guldmann and their Irish distributor KnR Medical Supplies. Guldmann is a Danish-based company that has a product range which includes ceiling hoists, mobile lifters, slings and lifting accessories.

The CPD consisted of reviewing several important aspects of ceiling hoist design including:

There are a wide range of hoisting systems available to suit many different situations and environments from mobile floor hoists, floor mounted hoist systems through to fixed installation ceiling track hoist systems.

In addition to providing continuous professional development (CPD) for our team, O’Herlihy Access Consultancy has developed a programme of courses covering disability in customer services, information provision and the built environment. Our courses are designed to help organisations take a holistic approach to improving access to services.
