International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December 2016.

As you may be aware the annual United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) takes place every year on the 3rd of December. The theme for this year is “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want” and one of the main objectives is to assess the current status of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) given that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the adoption of the CRPD.

This year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities will place special importance on the various issues which relate to accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the context of urban development. This follows the Third UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) which took place on 17th -20th October 2016.
