The implications of the Building Control Amendment Regulations 2014 on Accessibility and Universal Design

To celebrate the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3rd December 2015), Eoin O’Herlihy from O’Herlihy Access Consultancy delivered a continuous professional development seminar in Engineers Ireland entitled ‘The implications of the Building Control Amendment Regulations 2014 on Accessibility and Universal Design’.  The practical seminar provided an overview of how the Building Control Amendment Regulations 2014 have had an impact on accessibility and Universal Design and compliance with Part M of the Second Schedule of the Building Regulations.

The seminar included practical examples of where accessibility can go wrong during design and construction of buildings and highlighted how these examples can be overcome. An overview of the requirements of Part M of the Second Schedule of the Building Regulations (Access and Use) and the Disability Access Certificate application process was also be covered during the seminar.
