Easy Access to Historic Landscapes - Historic England

Historic England has recently (June 2015) revised their guidelines entitled Easy Access to Historic Landscapes.  The guidelines focus on better access for all people including people with disabilities to access historic landscapes (e.g. Walled Gardens, Castles, Parks, Abbeys, Approaches to Historic Buildings, Historic landscape sites). The guidelines provide good practice advice which will be beneficial for anyone with an interest in improving accessibility to their historic landscape and with an interest in improving the overall visitor experience for their end users.

The guidelines provide information on:

  1. Why access matters (e.g. The benefits of accessibility).
  2. Planning better access (e.g. Access auditing and developing an access plan);
  3. Making access a reality – This section provides guidance and information on how organisations and venues can make their information, physical access and customer services more inclusive and accessible.
  4. And where to go to get more information and relevant contacts.
