‘Ability’ Programme Launched to support Young People with Disabilities in Further Education, Training and Employment

On June 1st 2018 the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty, T.D., along with Minister of State with special responsibility for Disabilities, Finian McGrath, T.D., launched a new pre-activation Programme for young people with disabilities called ‘Ability’.

Under the Ability Programme, managed by Pobal on behalf of the Irish Government, funding of €16 million has been made available to assist 27 approved projects in the provision of support to over 2,600 young people with disabilities, aged between 15 and 29 years old, in their transition from school to further education, training and employment.

The Ability Programme will promote employment prospects and meaningful social roles for young people with disabilities, while focusing on bringing those young people, who are not work-ready, closer to the labour market.
